Loch Ness is a long, deep and very dark lake in Scotland.
In 1933 a new road was built along the shore, and more people began to visit.
Soon some of them said that they had seen a huge animal in the water.
A year later a famous photo showed a long neck rising from the lake.
For sixty years many people believed in it, but in 1994 it was proved to be a toy.
Scientists have searched the lake with sonar and have found no monster.
Perhaps people only see what they hope to see.
Even so, thousands of tourists still come every year, just in case.
