People in China have been drinking tea for thousands of years.

The tea bag, on the other hand, is a fairly new invention.

According to the legend, a tea merchant from New York sent small samples in little silk bags to his customers around 1908.

The customers didn't open the bags but put them straight into the hot water.

That is how a practical idea came out of a misunderstanding.

Heute bestehen Teebeutel meistens aus Papier.Today, tea bags are usually made of paper.
